<title>A Study of Parental Control and Juvenile Delinquency in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State</title>

<description>A Study of Parental Control and Juvenile Delinquency in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State
Asogwa, Nnamdi Kingsley
This study sought to investigate the relationship between parental control and juvenile delinquency in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu state. Using a cross-sectional survey design, the study elicited data from six hundred and ten respondents (juveniles and adults) who provided both quantitative and qualitative data, which were statistically and thematically analyzed. Results revealed that respondents identified truancy in school as the type of delinquent behaviour they have ever exhibited. Respondents also identified alcohol consumption and watching of pornographic movies/clips, gambling, bullying, verbal abuse, disobedience to parents/guardians and going to club/staying late night, fighting, as well as running away from home as behaviours they have exhibited before. Similarly, majority of respondents reported committing delinquent acts such as secret watching of adult entertainment, disobeyed parents and teachers stayed away from school, drank alcohol and involved in sexual relationships at least once. While majority reported that they have never smoked weed or cigarette, used or sold drugs for money. The study also found that parental influence, the media, distance from home to school were some of the factors that influenced juvenile delinquency in the area. Result of the Pearson’s correlation revealed that there was a strong negative correlation between the two variables [r = -.79, n= 604, p&lt;.05], with high levels of perceived parental behavioural control associated with lower levels of juvenile delinquency among respondents. Among several recommendations, the study suggested the introduction of intervention programmes that could assist families and adolescents by providing them with information wherein parents will be taught on how to raise responsible adolescents and adolescents will in turn be informed about the short and long term effects of delinquent behaviours and how to improve their self-worth.

Akaolisa, Joshua Onyedika
This study investigated socio-cultural factors affecting healthcare delivery by medical workers in Nnewi-North, Anambra Statewas undertaken. It was geared towards identifying the concepts and conceptualizing such concepts as used in the study of socio-cultural factors affecting healthcare delivery by medical workers. It revealed the relationship between social factors (religion, culture, education) and healthcare delivery by medical workers. Five hundred and sixteen respondents were randomly selected and used. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The data collected were analysed using SPSS and chi-square, tables, charts and percentages were used to present the results, also Data from in-depth interview (IDI) was analyzed using the general qualitative analysis procedure. Several findings were made as regards socio-cultural factors affecting healthcare delivery by medical workers in Nnewi, Anambra State. A cluster sampling and stratified random sampling were adopted in the course of this study. Descriptive statistics such as frequency table, chart, percentages were used to describe and interpret the data collected including chi-square and t-test for test of hypotheses. The findings showed that power tussle, religious beliefs, inadequate knowledge and understaffing were the factors militating against effective delivery or administration of healthcare by health workers in Nnewi-North. Based on the findings it was recommended that complementary existence for the traditional and orthodox healthcare providers would not only eliminate the unnecessary and unhealthy competition between them, it will ensure that the benefits of the traditional and orthodox healthcare providers are utilized by the people. Programs that help the healthcare provider to enhance his or her skills can be instituted so that healthcare providers will not be working with outdated knowledge and practices. The hypotheses tested using t-test on medical workers and religious belief plus the hypotheses tested on traditional and orthodox medical workers are statistically significant, also the hypothesis tested using Pearson chi-square indicate that there is no significant level of relationship between the variables. The study concludes that power tussle, religious beliefs, inadequate knowledge and understaffing are the factors militating against effective delivery in Nnewi-north, Anambra state excluding gender.

Agbowo, Jahdiel Ifeanyi
This study investigated the impact of Rural-Urban migration on the development of Rural Communities in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu state, Nigeria. A total of 624 respondents were sampled. To guide the study, six research questions and four hypotheses were formulated and answered. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to sample 12 communities out of the 18 communities in Nsukka Local Government Area. Two instruments were used namely questionnaire and in-depth interview guide. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics as the need arose in the study. The major findings of the study were that there was a positive correlation between household income and migration in Nsukka Local Government Area; there was a positive correlation between migration and agricultural production in Nsukka Local Government Area; there was a positive correlation between infrastructural development and migration in Nsukka Local Government Area and there was a positive correlation between accessibility of farming resources/facilities and migration in Nsukka Local Government Area. In conclusion, migration and development among the rural dwellers can be predicted by education, household annual income, the rate of infrastructural development and accessibility of the available farming resources and facilities. The study recommended that government and nongovernmental organizations interested in controlling rural-urban migration should put more effort in providing social amenities such as electricity, motor-able roads, pipe-born water and so on in the rural settings in Nsukka, that Agro-business be encouraged among the people so as to encourage the families of migrants to invest more of the money remitted by the migrants into agricultural business and that the provision and distribution of available farming resources/facilities such as loans, improved seedling, and so on, consider household with lower income as inclusion criteria to encourage practical rural development.

<title>Manufacturing Sector Performance and Selected Macroeconomic Variables in Nigeria: 1970-2009</title>
<link>http://repository.unn.edu.ng/handle/123456789/9625</link>
<description>Manufacturing Sector Performance and Selected Macroeconomic Variables in Nigeria: 1970-2009
Obinwanne, Julian Chukwuma
This study employs time series data to investigate empirically how the various macroeconomic variables affect the performance of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria for the period 1970-2009. It found out that over the sample period, the rate of growth of the manufacturing sector responds to variation in selected Macroeconomic variables such as Real Gross Domestic Product (RGDP), real interest rate, credit to private sector, real exchange rate, trade openness and political economy. However, the relationship between the growth rate and any of the real interest rate and exchange rate was found not to be statistically significant. Empirical evidence further revealed that the relationship between the growth rate of the manufacturing sector and the variables of the interest was found to exist even in the long run due to the fact that these variables were found to be co-integrated. The paper therefore recommends that policy makers need to exercise great care on prescribing international trade policies, while less emphasis should be laid on exchange rate policies because this would have no form of effect on the growth rate on the manufacturing sector. Also interest rate policies should not be used to drive the rate of growth of the manufacturing sector as they have no impact on the sector while efforts should be made to sustain the present civilian government .
