<description>Strategies for Reducing the Administrative Problems Facing Technical Colleges in Anambra and Imo States
Nwachukwu, Nkechi P.
The study was carried out to determine strategies for reducing the administrative problems facing technical colleges in Anambra and Imo states. Six research questions guided the study. Five null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Survey research design was used for the study. The population for the study was 111 which comprises 78 technical teachers, 11 principals and 22 vice principals of technical colleges. A Structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The instrument was face validated by three lecturers. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine internal consistency of the instrument and reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained. Mean was used to analyze the data for answering research questions while ANOVA was used to test the hypotheses of no significant difference at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that: (a) eleven strategies were required for improving financing of technical colleges, (b) eleven strategies were required for enhancing stakeholders’ participation in running technical colleges, (c) eleven strategies for curbing indiscipline in technical colleges were required, (d) eight out of eleven strategies were required for enhancing teachers’ motivation for effectiveness in technical colleges, (e) five strategies were required for involving technical teachers in the development of technical college curriculum, (f) eight strategies were required out of nine for improving the provision of human and material resources to ensure quality assurance in technical colleges of Anambra and Imo States. There was no significant difference in the mean responses of technical teachers, principals and vice principals on the strategies to be adopted to enhance financing of technical colleges, strategies for enhancing stakeholders’ participation in running technical colleges, strategies for curbing indiscipline in technical colleges, strategies for enhancing teacher’s motivation for effectiveness in technical colleges and strategies for enhancing the provision of human and material resources for training technical colleges students. It was recommended among others that Government and individuals such as parents and employers of technical colleges should be actively involved in financing technical colleges in the States.

<description>Development of a Training Programme in Beekeeping for Poverty Alleviation of Rural Farmers in Enugu East Agricultural Zone of Enugu State
Agbo, Priscilla Nkiru
This study focused on the development of training programme on beekeeping for poverty alleviation of rural farmers in Enugu East Agricultural Zone of Enugu State. Five (5) research questions guided the study and five (5) hypotheses were formulated and tested at the probability of 0.05 level of significance. Research and development (R&amp;D) design was used for the study. The population for the study was 432 comprising 307 Agricultural Science Teachers, 40 Extension agents and 75 beekeepers. The population of Agricultural Science teachers was sampled using 20% proportionate stratified random sampling techniques while the entire population of the Extension Agents and Beekeepers were used because of their small size. The questionnaire was divided into 5 sections (Objectives, Content, Materials, Methods of training and methods of evaluation). The questionnaire items developed from the review of literature and function of industry and were validated by 5 experts and were used to collect data from the respondents. Cronbach Alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument. The reliability coefficients of 0.84, 0.91, 0.90, 0.89 and 0.97 were obtained for the five sections respectively. Agricultural Science Teacher and Extension Agents responded to all the sections while Beekeepers responded to section 2 and 3 (content areas and materials used in beekeeping training programme). The questionnaires were administered to the respondents with the help of six research assistants. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics were used to test the null hypothesis at the probability of .05 and appropriate degree of freedom. The findings of the study revealed that 11 objectives were relevant while 65 content area items, 18 materials, 11 methods of training and 8 methods of evaluation of farmers’ performance were required in developing a training programme in beekeeping for poverty alleviation of rural farmers in Enugu East Agricultural Zone of Enugu State. The null hypothesis tested revealed that there was no significant difference in the mean ratings of the Agricultural Science Teachers, Extension Agents and Beekeepers on 74 out of 83 items on the content areas and materials required in beekeeping training programme. Also there was no significant difference in the mean ratings of the Agricultural Science Teachers and Extension Agents on 26 out of 30 objectives, methods of training and methods of evaluation required in beekeeping training programme. The identified objectives, content areas, materials and methods of training and evaluation were packaged into a training programme in beekeeping for poverty alleviation of rural farmers. It was recommended that the package be used to organize workshops and conferences for farmers, extension agents, teachers and entrepreneurs in beekeeping enterprise.

<description>An Investigation into the Status of Safety Practices in Wood Workshops of Technical Colleges in Niger State
Ahmed, Jibril Wushishi
This study was carried out to investigate the status of safety practice in wood workshops of technical colleges in Niger State. The study was guided by four research questions and four null hypotheses. The study used survey research design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 132 graduate and non graduate technical teachers. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire on an investigation into the status of safety practice in wood workshops of technical colleges. The Cronbach alpha method was used to test the internal consistency of the instrument and the average value of Cronbach Alpha for the questionnaire is 0.08. Mean was used to answer the research questions, while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that few safety practice are available in wood workshops, safety equipment and materials are inadequate, causes of accident are more in the workshops and appropriate teaching methods and instructional materials are not often used. The study made some recommendations on how improve safety practices in wood workshops of technical colleges in Niger State.

A questionnaire titled ‘Skills Required by Tertiary level Woodwork Teachers (QSRTWT), consisting of 64 items was structured based on the four research questions: Cutting, Planing and Joint making others are Assembling, Finishing and finishes application as well as Maintenance of woodwork tools and equipment were administered to forty woodwork teachers in seven tertiary institutions in North Western Nigeria (Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states). Data collected were analyzed using the Mean and answered the research questions and t-test statistic was used and tested the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. The result of the research questions showed that all the 64 woodwork skills were required by the tertiary institutions teachers. The hypotheses tested revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean responses of the Experienced and Less experienced teachers in the skills required by woodwork teachers in carrying out their activities in wood workshops in tertiary institutions in North Western Nigeria. Therefore, the result of the study showed that there is the need for re-training of teachers in woodwork skills for effective transfer of same to the learners.
