Abstract:
The importance of leadership in determining the success and failure of any organization cannot be over emphasized. Leadership is therefore so pivotal in organizational discourse that most scholars have come to agreement that its quality determines the quality of organizational performance. However, leadership in most organizations are usually found wanting and performing below expectation which in turn adversely affect the realization of organizations’ stated objectives. This study is geared towards “Leadership and organizational performance: A case of the Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa”. It was discovered that the leadership of the College was high handed, there was no consultation in the process of decision making, staff welfare was not given high priority, in most of the appointment and posting of staff the NCCE (National Commission for Colleges of education) was not followed among others. To help solve the problems, it was recommended that the leader should adopt a democratic leadership style where genuine views and opinions of staff are sought, government should employ the services of external auditors to audit the college account every year, heads of Departments should be involved in the recruitment of staff to them etc.
