Abstract:
A study of 2 Samuel 13:1-22: A call for effective guidance
and counselling among the youths in Nigeria is an attempt to
analyze the event that took place in the house of a given king
called David in 2 Samuel 13:1-22 and sees how its lesson
could be used to address the current or contemporary
problem facing the Nigerian youths in relation to offering
guidance and counseling services. In a nutshell, the work
focuses on the exegetical analysis and hermeneutical
application of 2 Samuel 13:1-22. The researcher used the
available biblical materials in the libraries and journals to
source his data. The episode in 2 Samuel 13:1-22 shows a gap
in parent-child relationship, influence of bad company and the
consequences to both the victims and the society in general.
Today, it is also observed that such gap still exists and getting
wider. Consequently, the society is getting more corrupt.
Every day the society experiences more increase in the rate of
moral decadence among the youths. The study calls for
responses from every nook and cranny to salvage our young
ones from mass destruction resulting from lack of attention to
their developmental experiences. In other words, parents,
governments and religious bodies are called to offer help in
provision of guidance and counselling services to the youths
in Nigeria. It is probable that this would go a long way to
decreasing growth rate of social vices and raise the moral
standard of our nation, Nigeria.
