Abstract:
The study investigated the Bullying behaviour among primary school pupils in Gwagwalada Area Council of Federal Capital Territory Abuja. Five research questions and three null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. The design of the study was descriptive survey design. The sample was made up of 400 pupils which comprises of male and female from urban and rural primary schools in the study area. A self constructed questionnaire titled Bullying Behaviour Questionnaire (BBQ) was the instrument used in the study to elicit bullying manifestation of pupils in primary school. The items of the questionnaire was validated by experts in Childhood Education and Measurement and evaluation from Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Reliability coefficient of BBQ was established by testing and the estimate of internal consistency of the instrument was established by Cronbach alpha procedure. The overall reliability obtained was 0.83 mean, standard deviation was used for research questions while t-test was used to analyse the hypotheses. Major findings of the study showed that different types of bullying are exhibited in primary school, causes of bullying comes from both home and school, Gender and location have significant influence on bullying behaviour, and also that bullying influence the bullied and bullies behaviour, conclusions were drawn and educational implications were discussed. Among the recommendations made were: Teacher should undergo some training on strategies of curbing bulling in primary schools, parents should censor the films children watch, government should built enough classroom for schools and so on.
