Abstract:
Geophysical investigations involving direct eletrical current resitivity gouning were carried out in the nsukka area of Anambra state for groundwater purpose.the aim of the inveetigation was to study the varition of depthe to the water table in the area, and to map the thickness of the aquiferous zones. since the Ajalli sandatone is the most boreholes already resulte and the data obtained from the boreholdes to build a beter pictureof the resevoir characterlistic of the Ajallisandatone.the project area in underlain by the nsukka formation(upper coal measures ) which in conformably underlain by the Ajali sandatone. The manu formation (lower coal measures) underlies the Ajalli (false bedded) sandatones.twenty three vertical electrical sounds were carried out in different locations in the project area. interpretion was by partialcurvebmatching and the of auxiillary curve .from the result obtained, the depth to the water table wthin the project area varies between 13nto 60n. water tableb is shallowest in the north west-south east axis of the area around ibagwaAni, Edem Ani,Nsukka, Eha Alumona and Opi area, and deepest at Obimo and Lejja area. The thickness of the lateritic capping and out liere of the Nsukka formations appear to determine overburden is very thick, the depth to water table is great to the case. the sounding result have helped select other sites for locating productivie boreholes, specially in area where none have been drilled. the resulte obtained in this study generally agree with the information obtained from the boreholes in the area. the
