Abstract:
Rhythm and harmony, two basic elements of music, are hailed by philosophers as the vital instruments responsible for balance in the human psyche. All manners of development start and end with the human individual who is physically fit, emotionally stable, and mentally balanced. Through participant observation, content analysis, and survey of trends, fusions, adaptations, and practices of popular music and musicians; this study found out that a myriad of elements—like lyrical contents, simple language, haunting melodies, simple catchy rhythm, close-knitted harmony, popular ideology, and musical production and patronage—imbue the highlife and reggae popular music genres with strong ingredients for sustainable development.
