Abstract:
In most Nigerian rural communities there is the need for a television (TV) receive antenna that enhances good reception of broadcast programmes. Most rural communities are situated far from the TV broadcast and transmitting stations, thereby making it very difficult to receive weak signals. This situation created the need for this research bearing in mind the place of TV broadcast in a developing society such as Nigeria. In this work, a Yagi antenna was chosen for its performance, openness to modifications and performance parameter enhancement. Yagi antenna was designed to be supported by an amplification system intended to drive the total antenna system gain up to 50dB at both very high frequency (VHF) and ultra highfrequency (UHF) ranges. The antenna (Yagi) was realized with materials that are very locally available. The antenna system was designed, modeled, constructed and tested to prove its superiority over the commercially available equivalents. Gain of 34dB was achieved over VHF and UHF frequency bands as against 14dBand 8dB in the commercially available antennas.
