Abstract:
This project is based on the study of community participation in rural development in Nigeria (case of Igbo-Eze South L.G.A.) which was conducted 2009. The objectives of the study were broad and specific; which gears to determine whether communities in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area participate substantially in rural development. While specifically it tries to ascertain the extent of community participation in rural development in Igbo-Eze South L.G.A. and to determine whether the problem of inadequate funding affect community participation in rural development in Igbo-Eze South L.G.A. The method adopted for this design was stratified random sampling; a sample size of 100 people was drawn from five villages in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area to represent the entire population. The main instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. The questionnaire south information on socio-demographic characteristics of respondents, Age, Educational Qualifications, sex, marital status, community organization/membership, thus face to face interview report was administered to respondents. The study utilized percentage, mean tables standard deviation, and T- test statistics was applied to test the hypothesis. Major findings of the study include that the communities of Igbo-Eze South has limitation that hinders participation of rural development in their various communities. Also funding is found to be one of the problems that hindered proper development in Igbo-Eze South L.G.A. However, further studies are recommended to explore other factors that brings about poor community participation in rural development in Igbo-Eze South L.G.A.
