Abstract:
Out of 4,293 Dogs treated for various problems in a University veterenary Clinic in Kaduna from 1990 to 1999,384 Dogs were selected by simple random clinic record.A total of 180 Dogs were treated against babesiosis.Babesia parasitis ewre demonstrated in the blood smears of 97 Dogs.There were no significant (p>.0.05)association between babesiosis in treated Gogs and age,bred,season and sex.Babesiosis was more prevalent in the rainy season than in the dry season.Local Doogs,female and Dogs of over 24 months of age were at greatest risk of suffering from babesiosis.The implications of these finding with respect to the management and control of babesiosis inDogs in Clinics are discissed.
