Abstract:
This paper is a study of the mobile telephone user behaviour of freshmen in University of
Nigeria, Nsukka. ." In Nigeria, a growing population owns a mobile phone, making it an
: Increasingly important aspect of everyone's lives. The result is that, from a mere 450,000
Working phone lines in 200I, the number of phone users in the country (which apart from the
GSM networks, include the Code Division Multiple Access (COMA) operators), is today close to the 100 million mark. This is considered astronomical by all standards. The above scenario presents a platform that makes it possible for young adults who just gained admission into the university to possess mobile phones of different category and capacity. This has implications for the university library. The study focuses on students' level of awareness of the various library services that can be achieved through cell phone use, methods library staff use cell phones in rendering services to students, benefits of using cell phone to get information from the library, constraints to the use of cell phones in getting library resources by students and the strategies that can help in enhancing library services to students via cell phone. A sample of 100 students from the 9 faculties of Nsukka campus of the University formed the population. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data and percentages and mean were employed for data analysis.
