dc.description.abstract This research work on owning and managing a radiographic firm was aimed at finding out the requirements for setting up a radiographic firm, the problems associated with its management and how lucrative the business is. The need for the research arises because of the observed inadequacies in the number, management and performance of radiology centres despite the increasing need for such centres. This work is limited to diagnostic radiographic and ultra sonography and was carried out using Enugu Metropolis as the target population, using selected private radiology centres and the public radiology departments in Enugu metropolis. The survey research design was used. Data were collected through personal observations, interviews and review of related literatures. The research showed that the major problem in setting up a radiology centre is the huge initial capital outlay involved which leads to the purchase of sub-standard and second-hand equipment with subsequent problem of equipment breakdown and high cost of maintenance. At the proposed initial annual output of fifteen percent (15%) of estimated average annual supply gap for the , period 1999 – 2003 used in the project , the forecast profit and loss account showed a loss of N678550.00 in the first year but progressively made profits of N82860.00; N237990.00; N3192360.00; and N3940020.00 in the second, third , fourth and fifth year respectively. The profit trend here suggests that the project has a high tendency for high long-run profitability. It is therefore recommendable to able investors who can bear the immediate loss of the early years for overall long - term profits. en_US
