Abstract:
The relationship between government expenditure and economic growth has continued to generate series of controversies among scholar in economic literature. The nature of the impact is inconclusive. While some authors believed that the impact of government expenditure on economic growth is negative or non significant others believed that it is significant and positive. The recent revival of interest in growth theory h as also revived interest among researchers in verifying and understanding the linkage between fiscal policies and economic growth. Over the past decade and a half a substantial volume of empirical research has been directed towards identifying the elements of public expenditure that bear significant association with economic growth. Economic growth brings about a better standard of living of the people and that is brought about by the improvement of infrastructure, health, housing, education and improvement in agricultural productivity. Substantial development is enhanced by economic growth, and economic growth is enhanced by expansion of infrastructure, the improvement of education and health services, the powerful security strategy and food security (Agriculture).
