Abstract:
The title of project is "An Investigation of Capital Market Performance of the Nigeria Institutional Investors" The objectives of the study were to examine the components
of the Nigeria capital market, to examine the issuing houses and their expected role in the Nigeria capital market, to , X- ray the contributions of the capital market to the development of industrial capabilities and economic growth. Two hypothesis tested are: 1. The Nigerian Institutional Investors do not have sufficient knowledge of the workings of the Nigerian capital market.2. The capital market Investments of the Nigerian Institutional Investors is Sub- Optimal The project found out that the Nigerian Institutional Investors do have sufficient knowledge of the workings of the Nigerian capital market, there are few number of securities available for trading on the Nigerian stock exchange etc. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the supply of securities should be increased through fiscal incentives such as discriminatory tax relief in favor of quoted companies, investors should be encouraged to trade on securities instead of the buy and hold attitude which they practice, and new entrants should be encouraged into the market by removing stringent listing requirement
