Abstract:
The national youth service programme is the dream of every Nigerian graduate in school, answering the clarion call is what every graduate must uphold in the building of our nation. Since the establishment of the NYSC scheme in 1973 by the former head of state General Yakubu Gowon it has endured the test of time for the past thirty four years of its existence. The scheme which started from a humble beginning with about two thousand three hundred and sixty four (2364) corps members has witnessed tremendous growth and successes 10 divergent areas in the country's development process. NYSC as the melting pot has galvanised youths for more than twenty-five or more ethnic background with different cultural trappings in Nigeria unto a unified body to form a whole that has sustained not only structural development but most importantly the unity of our great nation. The present site of the NYSC orientation camp in Bayelsa state is the government boys secondary school Kaiama town in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area. The conversion of the secondary school was as a result ofthe immediate activities of the NYSC in the state which started with the creation of the state. Based on the concept of compatibility, the idea of a permanent orientation camp is to build a modern and functional infrastructure that is compatible to both the physically challenged and able corps member and also capable of accommodating the corps members and enhancing their activities to foster the development of the nation that brings about the convergence of graduates across the nation.
