Abstract:
This research study dealt on "The Role of information Technology as a tool for good decision making for effective organisation management" A case study of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. The purposes of this study is to ascertain the existence and effective utilization of information technology in the Building Industry and to find out whether information technology has been effective in generating cordial customers' relationship, hence profitability ofthe banks. To carry out this study, the required information were obtained from both primary and secondary data sources. The data analysis techniques applied in this study were the frequency and simply percentage table methods and the Spearman rank order and chisquare statistical tools. At the end of the data analysis, -the following conclusions were made;
1) that the application of information technology (IT) is yet to be maxunally relied upon or explored to contribute significantly in managerial decision making for organisational effectiveness.
2) That inadequate application of information technology results in inefficient banking performance in terms of productivity and 0-t. profitability
3) That cordial relationship and customer satisfaction oriented services in unattainable without full application of information technology.
4) It is also accepted that inter-branch communication and transaction has been hindered considerably as a result of man full application of information technology in the process of decision making. Based on the above conclusions, the following recommendations were
made:
l. it is suggested that for most appropriate decision making process, information technology application should be fully and maximally explored, for organizational effectiveness, and meet up with the demand ofmodem banking challenges.
2. Also, for the purpose of efficient banking performance, particularly in terms of productivity and profitability, the application of information technology should be adequately utilized.
3. In the tight of highly competitive nature or banking services in the 21m century, Union Bar...ik of Nigeria Plc is advised to give paramount importance to information technology in order to make her compete favorably. Lastly, it is advised that the bank should make financial provisions for the animation of its banking services with relevant information technology.
