Abstract:
This Research work was designed among others to investigate the effects of government uncoordinated energy policy on the Nigerian Coal Corporation on industrial level, and the Nigerian economy on aggregate. In carrying out the study, systematically designed questionnaires were prepared, vetted and administered to investigate all facets of such effects. Data obtained from the study were analysed with the aid of the Chi-Square test statistic. The government energy policy occasioning the neglect of the coal industry was found to be dysfunctional to the social, political and economic aspirations of the Industry and the Nation as a whole. Neglect of the Industry was statistically found to be associated with the 'far from ideal' power supply situation of the country. It was also established to be associated with the lingering windling economic fortunes of our land and more importantly, the chronic unemployment problems of this country. All these were established at 95 percent confidence level. The government should re-shape its energy policy in line with the dynamism of present times and coal should be legislated to generate and supply all the energy requirements of the rural areas of Nigeria. Equally of great importance is the revitalization of the Industry for enhancement of speedy national economic recovery and generation of needed employment opportunities for our people.
