Abstract:
This study aims to examine consortia development efforts among libraries in Nigeria. It explores the challenges and opportunities for Nigerian library consortia, operating in a global information environment. The exploratory research design was adopted. Secondary data was also used while highlighting the successful stories of library consortia in some Africa countries such as Zimbabwe. Ugandan, South Africa and Malawi, the paper noted several unfruitful attempts at developing consortium amongst libraries in Nigeria. The study emphasized the need for the formation of consortia amongst libraries as a viable option to meet increasing users demand in the face of shrinking library budgets. The paper argues therefore that libraries, must upgrade their competencies in information communication technologies in order to effectively operate library consortium in a global information system.
