The study investigated the strategies for the improvement of instructional supervision of primary schools in Enugu Education Zone. The study was guided by four research questions with four corresponding null hypotheses formulated. Literatures relevant to the study were reviewed. The design of the study was a descriptive survey. The population of the study was made up of all the 2144 teachers. The sample of the study was 528 respondents drawn using multi-stage sampling procedure. The instrument for data collection was a researcher developed questionnaire. The instrument was face validated by three experts from the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and trial tested in Awgu Education Zone. The internal consistency of the instrument was established by Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient methods. All copies of the questionnaire were distributed and returned with the assistance of three research assistants. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, while the null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test statistics. The results indicated that all the training strategies are suitable for improvement of instructional supervision of primary school in Enugu Education Zone, most of the ICT facilities application can serve as strategies for improvement of instructional supervision of primary school in Enugu Education Zone, all the moral boosting methods serve as strategies for improvement of instructional supervision of primary school in Enugu Education Zone, and all the disciplinary strategies serve for improvement of instructional supervision of primary school in Enugu Education Zone. With respect to the hypotheses 1 - 4, the t-cals are less than the t-table value of 1.96 showing that there is no significant difference between the mean ratings of teachers and instructional supervisors on training as a strategy, application of ICT facilities as a strategy, moral boosting as a strategy and disciplinary action as a strategy for improvement of instructional supervision of primary school. Based on the findings, the study was concluded and recommended that seminars and workshops should be organized for instructional supervisors from time to time, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities should be made available for instructional supervision and the government should provide some incentives to instructional supervisors to increase their morale. |
