Abstract:
It is a common knowledge that most firms in Nigeria operating within their
sphere. seem to be stable at that level. These firms may he surviving or
coping with the best environment because of the nature and quality of
product(s) produced that appeal to the customers: 'l here may he no
competition sequel to the nature of customers these firms serve as and the}
nature of the competitive environment. The reason may be attributed to the
income level of the customers. consumers attitude to superior items and a
host of other l‘actors.
On the part of the firm. the choice to serve this income level
consumers by producing low quality or high quality goods and services in
order to remain operational may be as a result of competitive fear and
organizational conservatism, coupled with lack of resources. To this effect.
firms and consumers maintain a level of production and consumption
pattern. respectively to survive in a competitive environment.
However, it is obvious that lack of competition among firms brings
about low quality products and services and lack of organizational growth.
Competition among firms is usually carried out through comparison.
Comparison here has to do with the evaluation of a firms business processes.
