Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to highlight the Effect of Internal Environment on Organizational Performance in Selected Manufacturing Firms in Enugu Metropolis. Specifically, the study aimed to pursue the following objectives; to determine the impact of organizational structure on workers performance: to ascertain the role of human resources on organizational performance; to examine how organizational culture impact on organizational performance; and to determine the extent organizational non-human resources influence organizational performance. The study had a population size of 1,152, out of which a sample size of 297 was selected using Taro Yamane Formula of 5% error and 95% level of confidence. Instrument used for data collection was primarily questionnaire and interview. The total numbers of 297 copies of the questionnaire were distributed while 275 copies were returned. The cross sectional research design was adopted for the study. Four hypotheses were tested using Pearson's correlation coefficient. chi-square and Z-test statistical tools. The findings indicate a strong relationship (r=0.89) between organizational structure and workers performance. Most of the respondents (91%) agree that organizational human resources play a positive and significant role on worker performance. The respondents (83%) agree that organizational culture positively impact on organizational performance. Similarly, 80% of the respondents agree that organizational non-human resources especially technology positively and significantly influence workers performance. The study concludes that internal environment is the life-wire of every organization and consists of culture, human resources and organizational non-human resources. The study recommends that firms should ensure that their organogram is well design in such a way that there will be a clear definition of duties and authority as well as free flow of information. Firms should try to motivate and sustain their workforce, because they are the indispensable assets that promote organizational growth.
