Abstract:
This is a project research carried out to determine the impact of employment relations and its new forms of work organization on the performance of workers. A sample size of 200 respondents was randomly selected from 10 selected SMEs in Enugu East, West, South and North, was used for this research. Both Primary and Secondary data were used as sources of data collection. At the end of the analysis, the researcher found out that the organizations under study believes in the efficacy of employment relations and as such engage in it. And among the employment relations practices they engage in include: regular payment of salaries: promotions; training and re- training programmes: annual awards: and bonuses: workers exposure to latest development in the manufacturing sector: excursion exercises; I.O.U. grants; additional pay whenever the organizations realize profit from increased sales. Equally, among the impact made by employment relations in these S /1Es include: Increased productivity: enhanced organizational performance: establishment and sustenance 0 f good and long lasting relationship; introduction or mutual understanding between the employers and the management: establishment of friendly atmosphere and peaceful co-existence between the employees and employers and among workers; establishment and improved better and cordial relationship between their organization and rival organizations and even among workers of that organizations. Based on the findings therefore, organizations arc strongly advised to make better and judicious utilization o f human resources, make reasonable budget for human relations activities and adequately compensate the employees if they must actualize their organizational goals and objectives and remain in the market.
