Abstract:
The success of any enterprise depends largely on the effective and efficient use of its resources. With a proper management of these productive resources particularly labor, success is most certainly assured. It follows that management should endeavor to organize a capable workforce that would see to it that the aims, objectives and goals of the organization are vigorously pursued. However, with this in place there is need to periodically evaluate the individual '. performance ~.f the workers. This is in terms of the individual's productivity or specifically his productive contribution in the production process. So, performance evaluation is one very effective and practical means of assessing individual staff performance. The assessment if properly done will certainly re-direct deviant workers for better performance as well as reward dedicated and conscientious ones. It has often resulted in establishing areas of training, transfers, retirement and similar management decisions areas.This researcher critically examined the attitude and impression of staff of Anaocha Local Movement Area, Neni towards performance ,appraisal. The study showed that the secret appraisal system is still in use. It was observed that the exercise was not carried out regularly. Also the result of the exercise when done was often not communicated to the individual staff. Where it is communicated it is merely to win favour from the affected staff. This attitude has largely made workers to play down on the importance of the exercise .Finally, based on the findings of the study, a number of recommendations have been made in orden kw lPut things>tight in the local gonltmUnelit,. it is my belief that appropriate implemented there would be visible improvement in workers productivity.
