Abstract:
This research study focuses on the effects of materials management techniques on production costs with a view of examining the causes and effects of material shortages on Nigerian Breweries Plc, Enugu. as well as to see how good management techniques of materials can be used to achieve reduction in production and increase \ in profitability level in manufacturing firms using Nigerian Breweries Plc 9th Mile Corner Enugu as a study. In Nigeria, only few manufacturing companies realize that materials availability, engineering, purchasing and distribution costs impinge on total materials cost. Only the few progressive firms realize that all materials cost factors must be co-ordinated and " controlled by a system oriented materials management department. Primary data for the study were collected through the use of questionnaires and personal interviews as research instruments. The questionnaires were administered to members of staff of Nigerian Breweries Plc in materials management related departments VIZ purchasing, warehouse, production and quality control.
