Abstract:
One of the most important incentives for an employee is the compensation he receives for his work. If he feels that he is being under-paid for his services, or that increased effort on his part will not result in increased pay, he is likely to do the minimum amount of work and vice-versa. Traditionally, it is expected that an organization will pay its employees a good wage in order to motivate them for increased productivity. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, this is not always the case due to the high level of unemployment. The huge outlay of resources paid in the form of salaries and fringe benefits need to be considered to see if they in effect motivate the employee to be more productive. In particular, it is necessary to obtain UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA NSUKKA the views of the recipients in the forms in which they receive some of their fringe benefits. It is important that the organization evaluates its ways of providing adequate compensation that would lead to increased staff productivity
