Abstract:
Scarcely can a day pass without reading our national dailies about management problems in the Teaching Hospital. These mass management 'necessitated the undertaking of this study. The University of Nigeria Teaching hospital Enugu was used as a case to elucidate these management problems and proffer solutions to them.T he scientific pattern of problem solving was followed. Questions were raised, hypothesis formulated and literatures were reviewed. Also research designs and methodology were made. The organizational set up and working of the teaching hospital were examined to determined the degree of efficiency sources o f conflict, control l, and coordination problem in the system. Mathematical and statistics tools were used to analyst the data got from questionnaire. Based 0n this analysis, the Following findings were made Over centralization of authority and power with the Board cause management problems Lack or shortage of facilities and poor quality care deter patients from attending the teaching hospital. Lack or ineffective performance objectives set for each depth, leads to inefficacy in management Wide span management of administration overload renders management ineffective in relationship between the various categories of staff makes control and coordination difficult in the teaching hospital.
