Abstract:
The main aim of this research work is to study the role played by corporate governance in the achievement of organizational goals using the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Enugu, as a case study. It also studied to evaluate the impact of technology, effective communication, consultation with stakeholders, government regulation, etc; on the practice of good corporate governance in ESUT. The level of hostility and unfriendly attitude of some host communities to government-owned organizations was assessed and the frustration to international-best-practices of corporate governance by illiteracy was also studied. The use of questionnaire was carefully applied to getting unbiased responses from respondents and hypotheses were also tested to validate statements or views on the impact of technology, effective communication and consultations with the stakeholders of a government -owned organization on corporate governance practices. Having ascertained some militating factors to the independent and hitch free performance of corporate governance to the expected world-best-practices level; some feasible solutions were proffered by the researchers as recommendations in the work, some of which are: that all existing corporate entities in Nigeria especially the government owned should practice good corporate governance, that all the stakeholders of government owned organizations should be duly and properly consulted and their views and opinion well respected and considered while making corporate or policy decisions, that no individual interest should override the corporate or organizational interest in the management of any organization especially the government owned; that the regulatory ministries, commissions and agencies of the government should make…
