Abstract:
A thermodynamic analysis of salinity gradient solar pond is undertaken. Math ematical models are developed to describe and simulate the thermal behaviour
of an SGSP. National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA)’s data for
ambient temperatures and solar radiations are used for the simulation. The re sults obtained showed that the instantaneous energy efficiency is at least 10 times
its corresponding exergy efficiency. They also showed that the energy and ex ergy efficiencies of the salinity gradient pond ranges from 11.07% to 29.92% and
from 0.44% to 3.06% respectively, and that an improvement may be achieved in
the performance of the pond by covering the top of the pond at night to reduce
losses
