Abstract:
The objectives of this study “Effective Manpower Management: Factors in Industrial Growth and Development (A Study of WAMCO Nigeria Plc)”, include the following; to discuss efforts undertaken by the organization to transform its human capital, in meeting the challenges of 21st century, to evaluate the Human Capital Management technique adopted by the organization and to seek ways of improving upon the present situation, to seek other ways by which the organization can improve performance. In carrying out this study, the researcher used questionnaire as a major instrument to collect data. Other instruments used were secondary data like textbooks, journals, magazines and other unpublished materials that relate to the topic under study. In the findings of this study, it was discovered that; there is strong correlation between performance management and human capital development, there is significant impact of training and development on employees job enhancement, high performance rewards boast employee morale and enhance its commitment to high performance.
Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations are made; organizations should determine strategic direction to ensure that the management of human capital is integrated into the agency strategic planning process and aligned to its vision, mission, and goals, develop work force competency for the development of the necessary skills, knowledge and work ethics through systematic comprehensive need based training programmes, implement of policies that will ensure quality staffing to ensure desired talents are attracted, acquired and retained in the organization.
