Abstract:
This study examined the impact of environment on teachers’ classroom management in secondary schools in Ilorodu Education Zone of Lagos State. Four research questions and two null hypotheses were stated to guide this study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population consisted of one thousand four hundred teachers out of which forty were selected by random sampling. A structured questionnaire named the school environment and teacher’s classroom management questionnaire (SETCMQ) was developed, validated and used for the study, after a ascertaining its reliability using Crobach Alpha reliability coefficient. Standard deviation and mean were used in analyzing the data collected for this study. The result of the study among others indicated that school plant, school climate, class size and students’ activities has an influence on teachers’ classroom management to a large extent. Educational implication of this include performance level on the part of teachers and consequently law achievement on the part of students. Recommendations were made on how to improve the environmental factors in order to improve teachers’ classroom management which will invariably improve students’ academic achievement.
