Abstract:
Anti altruistic politics which is politics that puts one’s interest above that of the masses is the reason behind quagmire in Nigeria as a nation. Research has shown that politics in Nigeria is all about selfish interests and interest of associates. To actualize that, politicians defect from a party to other, their cronies determine who governs, employment is shared with associates and resources meant for the development are embezzled. This study aims to determine how Christian churches in Nigeria can contribute in curbing anti altruistic politics in Nigeria. Building on existing researches in the areas, the study focuses on bringing Christian leadership ability to bear in Nigeria politics, praying for the leaders, emphasizing ethical principles and condemning of anti altruistic politics. The study adopted phenomenological method of research. Primary and secondary methods were used in data gathering. Thus 28 participants were randomly selected from the 6 geopolitical zones of the country. Findings show that Christian churches in Nigeria possess the capacity to curb anti altruistic politics in Nigeria and such could be done through participation in politics and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other Christian bodies in Nigeria should encourage their members to participate in politics.
