Abstract:
Maize offers itself for a variety of food when processed. As a raw material for production of dairy food. Maize has become a household name in almost every home and manufacturing outlets that rely on maize as their basic raw material. Which has made it to be seen as a crop, and as a result, it is rarely used as a sculpture medium. This project objectively explored maize as an adaptive material for sculpture. The idea behind the choice of maize as a sculpture source, is to enable the artist interrogate 9 its basic characteristics and its manifestations in different creative forms. In so doing, the sculptor interrogates the characteristics of maize as an idea for sculpture production. The artist is able to use maize eloquently to express social events which is a reflection of life in his immediate environment. The research followed a studio experiment which involved series of studio processes cutting, joining and tying. The results produced art works that make commentaries on the social and community life of the people.
