Abstract:
This project concerns the impact of the Internet on the marketing of Banking Services in Nigeria, using Orlu metropolis as an area of study. This research was necessitated by among others the need to determine the impact of the internet on the marketing of Banking services in Nigeria with special emphasis at Orlu metropolis.
The objectives of the study are among others:-
- To study the degree of appreciation of the Internet by the banks of the Internet by the banks.
- To ascertain the preparedness of the Nigerian banks for the revaluation being unfolding in the international market place in the area of e-commerce and web-based marketing techniques such as the internet banking, internet marketing and credit card systems. i.e. (ATM) Automated Teller Machines.
To accomplish these objectives a survey research was initiated with questionnaire as the major instrument for primary data collection.
Secondary data was also used for the study was sourced from textbooks journals, periodicals and other published materials. The sample size for the project was statitstically determined. Data collections with the instrument of questionnaire were presented using tables and percentages while the hypothesis were tested using the chi square test and to test statistics.
In the hypotheses testing we found out that;
(i) There is a reasonable Appreciation of the Internet amongst Nigerians.
(ii) The internet has had significant impact on the way and manner goods and services are being marketed, promoted and sold by Nigerian Banks.
(iii) There is positive impact of Internet Marketing services on the consumer’s confidence and security.
(iv) Nigerian banks are currently prepared for the challenges of Internet marketing and sales promotion.
The study came out with a number of the finding as it was able to establish that the advent of the internet in Nigeria banking services have tremendously facilitated and grossly expedite all activities to be easy and fast for the banks. While to the customer they believe that it has been cheaper, convenient and timely.
The important findings includes
1) That E – commerce concept represent a relevant substance to Nigerian banks.
2) That Nigerian banks agree that there is a reasonable appreciation of the internet.
3) That Nigerian bank disagree that they are neither positioned nor repositioned, for any perceived feature challenges as regards internet marketing.
The following Recommendation were given; To turn the digital divide into digital dividends: programmes should be developed to increase technology and computer skills among young people so as to build from an early age, an internet culture, grow web – enabled business, fertilize the public imagination and watch the buds of innovations blossom so that healthy fruits of products and services can ripen to enrich the lives of citizens.
